# Meta AI ads: which tool should run your account?

Meta AI ads tools cover three different jobs: advice, campaign execution and automation inside campaigns. Choose Plainrouter with your existing AI client for an approval queue, decision receipts and your own conversion count; choose Meta's Ads MCP for direct Meta tools, or Muse for connected business research and planning.

Published by Plainrouter, which is one of the options below. This compares current public documentation, not results from using competitors' authenticated accounts.

## Key facts

- Meta's ads AI connectors include a hosted MCP server and a command-line interface; Meta announced the open beta on April 29, 2026. [Meta's announcement, checked October 29, 2026](<https://www.facebook.com/business/news/meta-ads-ai-connectors?locale=en_US>).
- Muse connects Meta ad accounts and business tools, but its business announcement does not specify budget-editing permissions. [Muse for Small Business, checked October 29, 2026](<https://about.fb.com/news/2026/09/introducing-muse-small-business/>).
- Conversational campaign creation, targeting updates and budget changes in Meta AI business assistant are described as testing and coming soon. [Meta's October 6 update, checked October 29, 2026](<https://www.facebook.com/business/news/advertising-week-new-york-2026?locale=en_US>).
- Every budget increase through Plainrouter waits for a person in Ask and Full modes. [Plainrouter Actions, checked October 29, 2026](</product/actions>).

## Which Meta AI ads workflow should you choose?

Choose the control you need before choosing the chatbot. A plan in a conversation, a command sent to Meta and a change approved in a queue are different things.

| Workflow | Who supplies the model? | Access and availability | Approval boundary | Change record | Measurement source |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Muse | Meta | Regional app and connector availability; see below | Meta's permission system can grant more than one action; ad-specific write scope not disclosed in the business announcement | Meta documents an activity and planned-action trail; not a verified ad decision receipt | Connected business tools; dedicated site collection not established |
| Meta AI business assistant | Meta | Beta inside Meta's business tools; editing features in testing | Preview and approval controls announced for upcoming edits; exact per-action rules not established | Executed-change receipt not verified | Meta account context and recommendations |
| Meta Ads MCP with Claude or ChatGPT | Your AI client; Meta supplies the tools | Meta account access and a compatible client; an own-app setup is optional | Meta says approval before going live; available asset rules can deny actions and cap budget changes | Meta account activity-log tools and client history | Meta's reporting and signal data |
| Meta Ads CLI | No model required; an agent can call it | Developer terminal or scripts with authorized Meta access | Created resources paused by default; unattended operation is supported | Command output; verify the resulting account state | Meta Marketing API data |
| Plainrouter | Your chosen AI client | Sign up, connect Meta and choose Read or Write access | Ask holds every change; protected changes still need a person in Full | Decision receipt for every change that runs | Own arrivals and conversions beside Meta's figures |

Documentation checked October 29, 2026. “Not verified” means the reviewed source does not establish that capability, not that it cannot exist. A connected Stripe account can give an assistant business information; that is different from a documented website collection and reconciliation system.

## What can Muse for Small Business do for ads?

Use Muse for a business-wide review and campaign planning when its connectors are available to you. Meta's [September 29 announcement](<https://about.fb.com/news/2026/09/introducing-muse-small-business/>) names Meta ad accounts, Facebook Pages and Instagram professional-account analytics, alongside tools such as Shopify, Stripe and Klaviyo. Its examples include analyzing what works and drafting a campaign.

That announcement does not enumerate whether the ad connector can change budgets, bids, targeting or creative. A campaign draft is not proof of a supported operation that publishes or edits an ad account.

Meta says “nothing publishes, sends, or spends without your approval.” Its separate [Muse safety explanation, published September 8](<https://research.meta.ai/blog/security-and-safety-for-ai-agents-our-approach-with-muse>), describes scoped permissions that can last for one action, a task, a session or longer. Do not read that promise as proof of a fresh confirmation for every budget edit. Check the action and duration of the permission actually offered.

The business announcement described Muse in the US and Canada. Meta subsequently [launched Muse in Singapore on October 27](<https://about.fb.com/news/2026/10/muse-is-now-available-in-singapore-the-worlds-first-personal-ai-agent-built-for-everyone/>). The Singapore announcement describes a regional connector rollout; it does not confirm that every business connector is available there. Do not use an older “US and Canada only” description for the whole agent.

## What is the Meta AI business assistant in Ads Manager?

Meta AI business assistant provides account support, recommendations and performance guidance inside Meta's business tools. The [current product page](<https://www.facebook.com/business/ai/business-assistant?locale=en_US>) calls it a beta available to a majority of businesses, rather than a guarantee for every account.

Meta's [October 6 announcement](<https://www.facebook.com/business/news/advertising-week-new-york-2026?locale=en_US>) distinguishes current creative insights and deeper business context from agentic features it is beginning to test. Conversational campaign creation, creative generation, targeting updates and budget changes are described as coming soon, with previews, approvals and controls. Scheduled tasks and alerts are also in testing.

Choose it for guidance where it is available. Do not choose an operational workflow on the assumption that an announced editing feature is generally available today, or that its exact budget-approval rules have been published.

## What does Meta's Ads MCP do with Claude or ChatGPT?

Choose Meta's official server when you want your existing AI client to use Meta's own reporting and account-management tools directly. Meta hosts the endpoint at ` https://mcp.facebook.com/ads `; its [overview](<https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/ads-commerce/ads-ai-connectors/ads-mcp-server/ads-mcp-server-overview>) covers reporting, ad and catalog management, signals, experiments and account activity logs.

Meta's April 29 announcement introduced the open beta. Its July 16 update added own-developer-app connections and asset rules. [Current setup documentation](<https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/ads-commerce/ads-ai-connectors/ads-mcp-server/ads-mcp-server-get-started>) says owning a Meta app is not required for the standard advertiser route; building an own-app connection is a separate setup.

Meta's October 6 update says actions require advertiser-set permissions and explicit approval before going live. The [server-rules documentation](<https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/ads-commerce/ads-ai-connectors/ads-mcp-server/ads-mcp-server-rules-best-practices>) describes action denials and budget constraints, with rules in limited availability. Those controls should not be presented as a documented queue requiring a new person's decision for every budget increase.

For provider and approval comparisons, use [Meta Ads MCP options](</library/meta-ads-mcp-options>). For installation, follow [the official Meta Ads MCP setup guide](</library/meta-ads-mcp-setup>).

## What is the Meta Ads CLI?

The Meta Ads CLI is a terminal interface for creating, editing and analyzing Meta campaigns and commerce objects. Choose it when you need repeatable commands or scripts, rather than a chat interface. It still requires authorized account access; installing a command does not grant access to an advertiser's assets.

Meta's [April 29 developer announcement](<https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2026/04/29/introducing-ads-cli>) says resources are created paused by default. Activation is a separate operation. The same source documents unattended scripts and options that suppress interactive prompts, so a terminal prompt is not a mandatory human-review queue.

The CLI supplies structured output, not an independent measurement of the business result. Check which account and objects a command targets, verify what Meta actually changed, and keep credentials out of prompts and command history.

## Where do Advantage+ and Muse Image fit?

Advantage+ is automation inside Meta's advertising products, not another chatbot with the same access as Muse or an MCP client. Choose it for the native delivery or creative feature you actually need. Use [AI agents versus automated rules](</library/meta-ads-ai-vs-automated-rules>) to separate campaign automation from an agent requesting account changes.

Meta's October 6 update says static-image-to-video generation in Advantage+ creative is generally available. Its [July 7 Muse Image announcement](<https://about.fb.com/news/2026/07/introducing-muse-image/>) described advertiser access through Advantage+ creative as forthcoming. That older announcement alone does not establish the rollout to every advertising account today. An image-generation feature is not authority to launch or raise a budget.

## Is Meta Business Agent an ads manager?

No. Meta's [June 3 Business Agent announcement](<https://about.fb.com/news/2026/06/meta-business-agent/>) describes customer conversations, recommendations, appointments and sales through WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, with expansion to businesses globally. It is a different product from the Ads Manager assistant and the ad-management connectors.

Use it for customer messaging where available. Do not infer campaign-editing powers from the name “Meta business AI.”

## When should you choose Plainrouter?

Choose Plainrouter when your Meta-focused team needs to review ad changes and compare Meta's results with its own count. Plainrouter is a Meta ads platform, not an AI model or LLM router. You keep your existing compatible AI client; Plainrouter supplies account access, controls and execution records.

Ask mode holds every change for a person. Full can automatically run policy-passing pauses, budget decreases, ad activation, image uploads and paused ad copies without a budget. Every budget increase waits for a person's approval in both Ask and Full modes. Passing workspace policy does not waive that approval.

Campaign or ad-set creation, ad-set duplication and resuming a paused campaign or ad set also wait for a person. Changes that break a rule are blocked and appear in the Inbox. New ads start paused, and every change that runs gets a decision receipt. The kill switch stops further writes; it does not undo earlier ones. See [Plainrouter Actions](</product/actions>) for the full boundary.

[Plainrouter Signals](</product/signals>) keeps its own arrivals and consented conversions beside Meta's figures. That gives you another record to investigate, not proof that the ads caused the sale or a promise of better results.

Sign up in Plainrouter and connect Meta before configuring your client. Start with Read access, then enable the supported write workflow when you want proposals. Plainrouter can work beside Meta's official server, but a change sent through Meta's tools gets no Plainrouter approval or decision receipt. Muse and Meta's own assistant have not been verified as Plainrouter clients here.

## Frequently asked questions

### Should I let Meta's Muse agent manage my Facebook and Instagram ads?

Start with analysis and planning, then inspect the exact ad permissions before delegating changes. Meta documents ad-account connections but its business announcement does not list the budget, targeting or creative operations available. Choose a documented approval workflow for account execution instead of treating campaign drafting as proof of write access.

### Muse or Claude for managing Meta ads: which should a small business use?

Choose Claude with Plainrouter when the job is reviewing supported ad changes, keeping decision receipts and checking an independent conversion count. Choose Muse for connected business research and planning where its connectors are available. Claude with Meta's own Ads MCP is the direct route when Meta's tools and controls meet your needs.

### What are my options for letting an AI agent run my Meta ads?

Use your AI client with Meta's official Ads MCP for direct Meta tools, or with Plainrouter for its approval and measurement workflow. Developers can also use Meta's Ads CLI in scripts. Muse offers business connectors, while the Ads Manager assistant's new conversational editing functions are still described as testing and coming soon.

### Can Meta's own AI tools change my ad budgets without my approval?

There is no single approval rule across these products. Muse supports scoped grants, the CLI supports unattended commands, and Meta's MCP has its own permissions and controls; the reviewed sources do not establish a fresh personal approval for every budget increase across all three. The Ads Manager assistant's announced budget editing remains in testing. With Plainrouter, every increase always waits for a person, including in Full mode.
