# What counts as diverse creative for Meta ads?

Meta creative diversification means varying the message, visuals and format instead of uploading many cosmetic versions of the same ad. To check for near-duplicates, compare what each ad communicates and demonstrates, not just its filename, crop or colour. Meta's reviewed guidance does not publish a similarity score that tells you when two creatives are different enough.

## What does Meta say to vary?

Meta's guidance is about offering relevant choices, not satisfying a creative quota. Its [Blueprint session published May 18, 2026](<https://www.facebookblueprint.com/student/activity/707402>) describes diversification as “varying formats, visuals and messages across ad sets”. The [Performance 5 page](<https://www.facebook.com/business/ads/performance-marketing?locale=en_US>), checked October 22, 2026, asks advertisers to “Develop a variety of ad creative”.

Meta's [March 27, 2025 explanation](<https://www.facebook.com/business/news/ai-innovation-in-metas-ads-ranking-driving-advertiser-performance>) connects creatives that “support a diversification strategy” with more personalized creative selection. Andromeda retrieves candidates before ranking; the [Andromeda guide](</library/meta-andromeda>) explains that system without turning it into an undocumented rule for creative similarity.

## Which assets and formats can you diversify?

Separate the dimension you want to vary from the file you upload. The table below maps Meta's published categories and format examples to a practical review action; the review actions are Plainrouter's editorial checklist, not a Meta scoring system.

| What to vary | Meta source and date | How to check it before launch |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Message | [Blueprint creative diversification, May 18, 2026](<https://www.facebookblueprint.com/student/activity/707402>). | Write the promise and supporting evidence for each ad. Check whether the change says something different or merely rewords it. |
| Visuals | [Blueprint creative diversification, May 18, 2026](<https://www.facebookblueprint.com/student/activity/707402>). | Compare the subject, setting and demonstration side by side. A different export size alone does not establish a different idea. |
| Image and video assets | [Meta's Flexible format description, checked October 22, 2026](<https://www.facebook.com/business/help/835561738423867>). | Review the actual still or sequence, including its opening and ending. Confirm that text and demonstrations support the intended message. |
| Single-image, video and carousel presentation | [Meta's Flexible format description, checked October 22, 2026](<https://www.facebook.com/business/help/835561738423867>). | Preview the enabled presentations and placements. A carousel and a video can still repeat the same concept. |

The Flexible format page warns that availability differs and points advertisers who no longer see it toward a newer multi-media workflow. It is a source for the formats Meta describes, not a promise that every account has the same creation screen or controls.

## Is a new concept different from a headline or colour variation?

Our reading is that a new concept changes the reason to pay attention: the problem addressed, the demonstration, the evidence or the use case. A variation changes how that idea is presented. This is an editorial distinction for planning work; the reviewed Meta pages do not define a numerical boundary between the two.

A colour, crop or headline change can be worth testing when it answers a specific question. It does not automatically prove that you have added a new audience-relevant concept. Likewise, a new format can communicate the same promise, while two images can make substantially different arguments.

Before producing another asset, finish this sentence in your own review notes: “This ad gives the reader a different reason to consider the offer because …”. If the only answer concerns the file's appearance, label it as a variation rather than pretending the strategy changed.

## How do I check for near-duplicates before launch?

Use a short human review, not an invented similarity percentage:

- Compare the ads together, with filenames hidden where practical.
- Identify each ad's intended audience need, promise and supporting evidence.
- Note which dimensions changed: message, visual, format or underlying concept.
- Check whether a new headline changes the argument or only its wording.
- Preview crops, text overlays and enabled format changes so the delivered version still makes sense.
- Confirm that claims, usage rights, destination and offer have been reviewed.
- Record the question the change is intended to test before spending on it.

This checklist helps spot repetition; it does not predict Meta's retrieval, delivery or conversion rate. Claims that near-copies share an Entity ID or that a score above a fixed percentage suppresses delivery were not found in Meta's published sources as of October 22, 2026, within the reviewed sources linked here and in the hub.

## Where can Plainrouter help?

Plainrouter's creative tools provide template discovery, rendering over a library image and previews for a person to review. They help prepare material; Plainrouter does not score creative similarity or decide the strategy. Review the [creative workflow documentation](<https://plainrouter.com/docs/actions/creative-workflow>) and compare [AI and automation tools for Facebook ads](</library/ai-tools-facebook-ads>) by the task you need help with, rather than the volume of assets they can produce.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Meta Andromeda creative diversity mean making more ads?

Not necessarily. The documented recommendation is a useful variety of creative. More files do not establish more distinct messages, and this guide does not prescribe a count per ad set.

### Are different colours or crops diverse creative?

They are variations you can review or test, but they do not by themselves establish a new concept. That distinction is our planning interpretation, not a published Meta similarity threshold.

### Can I measure creative similarity with Plainrouter?

No. Template discovery, rendering and previews do not provide a creative-similarity score. Keep that gap separate from the ability to prepare an asset.

### Is there a Meta creative-diversification cheat sheet?

The dated source-to-review table above is a practical checklist based on Meta's public guidance. It is not an official Meta scorecard or a guarantee of delivery. For a controlled comparison, choose the [appropriate creative-testing method](</library/meta-andromeda-creative-testing>) before treating ordinary ad delivery as an experiment.

## Sources and method

Checked October 22, 2026: the public Blueprint description, Performance 5, the March 2025 ranking explanation and the Flexible format Help Center page linked above. We read the published descriptions, not a logged-in training video, and did not run ads or inspect an account. Concept-versus-variation labels and pre-launch checks are our interpretation; system mechanics and results remain attributed to Meta.
