Stape alternatives fall into four groups: other server-side GTM hosts, no-GTM tracking services, e-commerce integrations, and customer data platforms. TAGGRS, Addingwell and Google Cloud fit the GTM route; Meta-enabled Conversions API, CAPI Gateway, Tracklution, PixelFlow, Cloudflare Zaraz and Plainrouter offer paths without GTM; Elevar focuses on commerce; Segment and RudderStack provide broader event pipelines.

Choose by **event source and destination**, then by who operates the integration. Forwarding a browser event through a server is different from recording a purchase confirmed by your backend. A no-GTM setup is not necessarily a no-code setup.

Published by Plainrouter, a Meta-focused alternative. Product and price sources were checked on **4 October 2026**. This is a documentation comparison, not a hands-on performance benchmark.

## What is Stape?

Stape provides hosting for server-side Google Tag Manager, plus separate Signals Gateway and dedicated Gateway products. In the GTM route, your browser or another source sends data to a server container, whose clients and tags process and forward it to configured destinations. [Stape product and pricing overview](<https://stape.io/price>)

GTM hosting is useful when you want to control tags, mappings and several destinations. Stape also offers a Setup Wizard for supported configurations and separate maintenance services; hosting should not be confused with a promise that every custom event is already implemented. Its no-GTM Gateway products are a different setup from sGTM hosting. [Setup Wizard](<https://stape.io/helpdesk/documentation/setup-wizard-overview>)

For a focused comparison of Stape, TAGGRS, Tracklution and Plainrouter, see [server-side tracking tools compared](</library/server-side-tracking-tools>). This guide covers the wider architectural alternatives.

## Stape alternatives compared

“Backend” below means an application, webhook or supported commerce integration can supply events. It does not mean installation automatically confirms your orders. For GTM hosts, backend collection requires a suitable container client and event mapping. Prices use different units and are not directly interchangeable.

| Option | Needs GTM? | Events covered | Hosting | Price checked 4 October 2026 |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Stape sGTM | Yes | Browser; backend inputs with configured container handling | Stape-hosted container | Free: 10K requests/month. Pro: $20/month or $200/year for 500K requests/month. |
| TAGGRS | Yes for its sGTM route | Browser; backend collection depends on the configured container | Managed sGTM hosting | Free: 10K requests/month. Paid plans vary by currency and billing choice. |
| Addingwell | Yes | Browser; backend inputs depend on container clients and mappings | Managed sGTM hosting | Free: 100K requests/month. Published 1M-request tier: €90/month; add-ons and extra requests separate. |
| Google Cloud self-hosting | Yes | Browser and configured server inputs | Your Google Cloud project | Cloud usage and operations cost; Google's example estimates about $45/month per tagging instance. |
| Meta-enabled Conversions API | No | Pixel's browser events and parameters | Meta-managed setup | Free. |
| Meta Conversions API Gateway | No | Browser Pixel events forwarded to CAPI | Your cloud account or a hosting partner | Meta software has no fee; cloud resources or partner hosting are charged. |
| Tracklution | No | Website events; supported offline and webhook flows | Tracklution-managed | Free: 5K events/month. Grow shown at €39.20/month billed annually, including 50K events/month. |
| PixelFlow | No | Website events; advertises commerce/Stripe tracking, but custom backend input was not verified | PixelFlow-managed | Standard shown at $21/month billed annually, one site and one destination; extras separate. |
| Cloudflare Zaraz | No | Browser events and configured HTTP Events API inputs | Cloudflare edge | 1M events/month free per account; $5 for each additional 1M with paid usage enabled. |
| Plainrouter Signals | No | Managed browser events and eligible backend conversions through the API/SDKs | Plainrouter-managed | Free below €300/month of ad spend; paid pricing follows spend bands. |
| Elevar | Not required for its app/API routes | Commerce data through Shopify app or Elevar API; configure the actual event path | Managed platform | Entry plan: $225/month for up to 2K orders; implementation and extra destinations can cost more. |
| Segment | No | Website, mobile and server sources | Managed event pipeline | Current Connections/CDP pricing uses monthly tracked users; custom quote and free trial. |

## Which type of alternative fits your setup?

### Keep GTM: TAGGRS, Addingwell or Google Cloud

Choose another GTM host when your useful work is already in container tags and you want to change infrastructure or operating support. Compare container compatibility, logs, regions, quota handling and support rather than assuming every move improves measurement. [TAGGRS sGTM](<https://taggrs.io/server-side-tracking/>), [Addingwell product](<https://www.addingwell.com/product>)

Google Cloud gives your team responsibility for provisioning, monitoring and scaling the tagging service. Google's Cloud Run guide recommends at least two tagging instances for resilience; its approximately $45-per-instance estimate is not an all-in fixed subscription. [Cloud Run setup and costs](<https://developers.google.com/tag-platform/tag-manager/server-side/cloud-run-setup-guide>)

GTM can receive data from sources outside the browser, but your application must send it and your container must understand it. A different host does not create a missing backend purchase integration. [Sending data to a server container](<https://developers.google.com/tag-platform/tag-manager/server-side/send-data>)

### Avoid GTM: choose the event path, not just the server

**Meta-enabled Conversions API** is a useful free starting point when your Pixel already sees the conversions you need. Meta's setup comparison describes a one-click, web-only option that shares Pixel events and parameters. It does not independently discover a purchase that only your backend knows about. [Meta's setup comparison](<https://www.facebook.com/business/help/433493041367251>)

**Conversions API Gateway** takes browser Pixel events through a separately hosted service and forwards them to CAPI. Meta documents automatic event-ID propagation for deduplication. The software cost and infrastructure cost are separate; the documented flow still begins with the Pixel in the browser. [Gateway architecture](<https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/ads-commerce/gateway-products/conversions-api-gateway>)

**Tracklution** is a managed multi-destination route with documented event creation and transformation, including webhook mappings. Check the connector, consent configuration and offline-input workflow needed for your actual event. [Event creation and transformation](<https://www.tracklution.com/docs/create--transform-events-server-side/>)

**PixelFlow** targets no-GTM website tracking, including forms, bookings and commerce. Its current site advertises Stripe tracking and payload/delivery logs. We did not verify a documented generic backend-event endpoint, so confirm that specific requirement before treating it as a custom server integration. [PixelFlow features](<https://pixelflow.so/>)

**Cloudflare Zaraz** executes configured tracking tools at the edge. Its HTTP Events API accepts events from servers and other environments outside the browser, but the endpoint must be enabled and configured. That gives you a backend-input path; you still own event creation, authentication and destination configuration. [Zaraz HTTP Events API](<https://developers.cloudflare.com/zaraz/http-events-api/>)

### Commerce integrations: Elevar

Elevar offers a Shopify app and an API route for other commerce platforms. Its pricing measures orders, and destination or implementation fees can be additional. Choose it when commerce integration and the supported destination set match your store; check which events the app or API actually supplies before migration. [Elevar platform and API routes](<https://www.getelevar.com/>)

### Broader event pipelines: Segment and RudderStack

Segment accepts website, mobile and server sources and routes their data to configured destinations. RudderStack's HTTP source supports server-to-server ingestion alongside its SDK sources. They fit a broader data-pipeline requirement rather than only a replacement Meta Pixel transport. [Segment sources](<https://www.twilio.com/docs/segment/connections/sources>), [RudderStack HTTP source](<https://www.rudderstack.com/docs/sources/event-streams/http/>)

Check destination compatibility, identity design, consent and data ownership before comparing a CDP's user/event bill with a GTM hosting request bill. Adding a pipeline also adds implementation work; neither product automatically knows which orders your business considers paid.

## When Plainrouter is a fit

Plainrouter fits Meta-focused teams that want first-party collection, consent applied before advertising delivery, eligible backend website conversions supplied through API/SDKs, and an event trace separating collection, eligibility and Meta delivery. The managed browser Pixel and CAPI use shared event IDs for their paired events. [Signals](</product/signals>), [backend Conversion API](<https://plainrouter.com/docs/api/conversions>)

Stripe Checkout settlement is a **separate verified-revenue measurement**. It does not automatically establish advertising consent, a visitor/ad join or Meta delivery. Keep “backend conversions through the API” separate from “Stripe-confirmed revenue” when choosing an integration. [Stripe Checkout revenue flow](<https://plainrouter.com/docs/signals/track-events#verify-stripe-checkout-settlement>)

` get_signal_health ` reads stored collection, delivery, matching and reconciliation checks. Those checks help investigate a concrete gap; they are not a fresh Meta report or a guarantee of attribution. Meta acceptance confirms receipt, not an ad-caused sale. [MCP diagnostics](<https://plainrouter.com/docs/mcp/tools#get_signal_health>)

Use a GTM host if you need that container model and several destinations. Use Meta's free setup if Pixel mirroring covers your requirement. Plainrouter is not a general-purpose CDP, and its educational Google/TikTok articles do not establish conversion-delivery support for those platforms.

## What does Stape cost?

Stape's published USD hosting prices distinguish monthly billing from rounded annual equivalents. Checked 4 October 2026:

| Plan | Requests/month | Monthly billing | Annual billing |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free | 10K | $0 | $0 |
| Pro | 500K | $20 | $200/year, displayed as $17/month |
| Business | 5M | $100 | $1,000/year, displayed as $83/month |
| Enterprise | 20M | Confirm the monthly selector | $2,000/year, displayed as $167/month |

Intermediate tiers also exist. At one million requests, inspect the available tier selector rather than assuming you must buy Business. A request includes incoming tracking hits and script loads, not just purchases or page views. Dedicated Gateways have separate pricing. [Current Stape plan selector and request definition](<https://stape.io/price>)

## How do you switch without duplicating conversions?

1. Write down the required events, destinations, consent decisions and backend sources.
1. Choose one owner for each conversion before enabling a replacement sender.
1. Validate event names and stable IDs for browser/server deduplication.
1. Test the new flow and delivery evidence before retiring the old configuration.
1. Remove overlapping purchase senders; do not leave two integrations reporting the same order independently.

Preserve a rollback path and distinguish retained historical reporting from newly collected data. Changing providers does not create consent or remove a browser's limits. Use the [deduplication guide](</library/meta-event-id-deduplication>) and [server-side consent guide](</library/server-side-consent>) for those specific checks.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there a free Stape alternative?

Yes. Meta-enabled CAPI has no software fee, and several hosting or pipeline services offer free allowances. Compare the event sources, quotas and destinations: a free Pixel mirror and a free GTM container are different products.

### Do I need GTM to use server-side tracking?

No. Gateways, managed services and event APIs can forward or receive events without GTM. The important distinction is whether your chosen setup can collect the event you need, including a purchase confirmed outside the browser.

### Can I use Stape without GTM?

Stape's sGTM hosting uses GTM, but it also offers separate Gateway products. Specify which Stape product you mean before comparing an alternative or estimating the cost.

### Which alternative handles backend purchases?

Look for a supported commerce integration, webhook or server API, then verify the implementation actually sends paid orders. A product calling itself server-side is not enough: browser-origin events can also travel through a server.

### Which option should I choose for Meta only?

Start with Meta-enabled CAPI if your Pixel already sees the required events. Consider a managed backend-capable service when those sources, consent controls or delivery evidence matter. Compare the implementation work and ongoing cost against your actual event needs.
